- In August 2006, 13% of U.S. mobile subscribers received a text message ad, and 7% responded.
- Text messaging is the most widely used mobile data service on the planet, with 72% of all mobile phone users worldwide or 1.9 Billion out of 2.7 Billion phone subscribers at end of 2006 being active users of the Short Message Service (SMS).
- Canadians sent more than 4.3 billion person-to-person text messages in 2006, more than doubling the previous year's volume of 1.5 billion. Canadians now send over 560.4 million text messages per month - that's more than 18 million text messages each day.
- According to CTIA, mobile users sent 18.7 billion text messages in the month of December 2006, up 92% from 9.7 billion messages in December 2005.
- Text messaging is the preferred channel for many teens and those in 18- 24 old demographic. More than 70% of young adults (18-24) and close to 60% of teens (13-17) send text messages every month (M:Metrics).
